“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
-- Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
Three Types of Faith:
1) The first type of faith is what Bible scholars and theologians refer to as “Common faith”—“…God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3 KJV).
2) The second type of faith is the fruit of the Spirit faith—“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,” (Galatians 5:22 KJV). The NIV translates it “faithfulness” and it refers to faith that perseveres.
3) The third type of faith is the gift of the Spirit faith—1 Corinthians 12:8 “8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit…”
Against that backdrop I want to turn our attention to some ordinary people who took their faith to a higher level, some people who dared to get out of the boat and walk on the water.
I)By faith Melba Exley took her four year old daughter to war torn Argentina in 1976.
II) In 1970 the Lord challenged the Greens to take a step of faith and borrow $600 to start a home business in their garage assembling and selling picture frames.
III. God asked Ben to donate one of his kidneys to his sister.
IV. Sometimes God challenges us to take our faith to a higher level and believe for the restoration of a tragically broken relationship.
V) By faith 18-year-old John Merrill obeyed God and went to Africa. As a result of his obedience God has used him along with his wife Ruth to help take the gospel to more than 80 countries and through their efforts they have reached millions with the gospel.
What step of faith is the Lord calling you to take this morning?
