Listen to the Message

1 Thess. 4:16-24
Living in the light of eternity changes your priorities.
"What do Americans perceive their purpose in life to be?"
Thriving in our spiritual life.
There are things in this life that never change.
"It is through serving others with others that we generally begin to make the connection."
1. The first spiritual priority is discipline.
  • They all require disciplined effort on your part.
• JOY.
  • How you feel about any situation is simply the result of what you believe about the situation.
  • You can be joyful in any situation by choosing to believe God's promises.
  • You stop thinking of how impossible everything is for you, and you start thinking of how possible everything is for God.
  • "Pray hardest when it's hardest to pray"?
  • "Prayer lies at the root of all personal Godliness."
  • Being thankful isn't always takes effort, it requires discipline.
  • Being joyful means that we discipline our emotions;
  • Praying continually means that we discipline our mind;
  • Giving thanks means that we discipline our will.
2. The second spiritual priority Paul mentions is discernment.
  • You can't always believe everything you read, or everything you hear, or everything you see.
  • You must be open to what the Holy Spirit is doing.
  • Remain open to what God wants to do.
3. The third spiritual priority Paul mentions is dependence.
  • The work of sanctification is God's responsibility.
  • It is up to us to confess; He forgives, He cleanses, He purifies.
