Listen to the Message

John 12:1-11

Jesus is the best friend any of us could ever hope to have.
I want us to think about our friendship toward Him.
Wouldn't it be great if we could do the same?
He has called us friend.
What it means to be the same kind of friend to Him that He is to you and me.

#1. Let's look at Martha.
  • Martha served.
  • Martha learned that day that service isn't everything.
  • Jesus also made it clear in His teaching that service is essential.
  • This is how Martha expressed her friendship.
  • For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve...(Mark 10:45)
#2. Let's look at Mary.
  • Mary came to Him and ministered to Him in a special way.
  • This was an extravagant gift for a close friend.
  • "This perfume should have been sold and the money given to the poor."
  • Her perfume was none of his business.
  • Whenever you criticize the kindness of another, you sound more like Judas than Jesus.
  • "Her act of devotion has helped me prepare for what lies ahead."
  • She took the initiative and did what needed to be done.
  • "...for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him." (Matthew 6:8)
  • "...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40)
#3. Let's look at Lazarus.
  • He was willing to put his life on the line.
  • Because Lazarus was a walking, talking miracle.
  • "I want everyone to know what Jesus has done for me, even if it costs me my life all over again."
  • Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13 KJV)
  • There will come a time when each of us will have a chance to stand near Jesus, or to stand as far away from Him as possible.
  • Friendship with Jesus.
  • He does more for us than we could ever possibly do for Him.
