Psalm 101:6-8
We’ve been talking about living a life on purpose, with purpose.
We’ve talked about the mission statement that David created in this psalm in which he determined: this is what my life will be about.
1. I Will Surround Myself with the Best People I Know.
It’s more accurate to say that you are the average of the five people who receive the majority of your attention.
Ultimately you will be most like the people you like the most.
And this is why we need to make sure that we surround ourselves with those who have a healthy, uplifting outlook on life.
Psalm 101:6: “I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.”
As much as is possible, we need to surround ourselves with those whose attitudes reflect the attitude we want to bring to others.
2. I Will Make the World a Better Place.
Psalm 101:8 I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the Lord. (KJV)
Actually, the word destroy can also be translated silence, as in: “I will silence the wicked.”
Psalm 101:8 My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip. (NLT)
But we do have a job to do, and a calling to pursue — and our faithfulness to this task can make our little corner of the world a better place.
"You only live once, and I wanted to work with children."– Bill Haber
That’s because people who have experienced the most success are often the first to realize that success isn’t enough.
Psalm 101:8:“My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.”
There’s the key phrase: My daily task.
3. I Will Pursue My Purpose Each and Every Day.
For any lasting change to take place in our lives, for any significant impact to be made … it must be a daily endeavor.
Here’s another truth to consider: You are the average of the actions you take every day.
Of all the actions you take during the day, your life will average out to the most frequently repeated actions.
“How we spend our days is how we spend our life.” – Annie Dillard
In this sense, we need to be obsessed with the idea of doing everything in the best way possible.
I will do the most good that I possibly can;
I will put others first;
I will seek to glorify God in all that I say and all that I do.
And let’s make this creed not only a lifelong objective, but a daily endeavor.
