Acts 2:1-42
"Indefinable something"
We know why we're here.
Let's go in and get this over with.
A Mission Possible church.
Let's see what God is going to do today!
The day of Pentecost represents God's mission on earth.
1. We need to be a church that demonstrates God's power to make a difference in people's lives.
"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." (Acts 1:4-5)
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
"How is this possible?"
It was the miraculous power of God.
"How is it possible?"
This is the wonder-working power of God.
2. We need to be a church that helps people make the connection between the meaning of life's events and
the meaning of Scripture.
Where Faith & Life Connect!!!
"These men are just drunk."
He connected the truth of Scripture to the truth about Jesus and he explained what it means for them today.
The more you understand the Word, the more you understand life.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
A church that preaches the Word builds disciples with staying power in the Christian life.
The one who stayed got rooted in the Word.
3. We need to be a church that is ready to help people take the journey of faith.
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
They know that there is something missing in their lives; they're not connected to God like they want to be.
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
A community of people discovering the reality of life in God together.
"How can it be that your life is so different?"
We need the fresh wind of the Holy Spirit to move in our midst.
If we will do what we can do, God will do what we can't.
"The Holy Spirit makes the Church effective."
