John 14:1-14
Has there ever been anything that divided everything about your life into before and after?
The solid ground beneath their feet had suddenly turned to quicksand.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.”
He was the fixed point around which everything else in their lives revolved.
“I will be with you only a little longer … Where I am going, you cannot come.” (John 13:33)
They fit any occasion when life gets tough.
#1. Remember the Meaning Beyond This Moment. Every day is important.
He reminds them about the fullness of the life that exists beyond this moment.
Because we can endure a lot when we know where this is all headed.
“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”
But having a meaning gave them a way to endure it all without being crushed by it.
This is not the final chapter.
There is something beyond today that gives this day greater meaning.
#2. You already know what you most need to know. "How can we know the way?"
It's a relationship — a personal relationship — with Jesus Christ. Something stable enough to orient everything else around it. This is why we cling to Him every day.
When you know Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life for you, you can face anything.
#3. His Power is at Work in You.
I imagine we've all felt this way, and we've all asked for something like this.
12 “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…”
Greater in reach.
Greater in scope.
Greater in number.
The same God who was at work in Jesus… is now at work in you. But it's actually an invitation to partnership.
"Don't see this as the end of the road. See it as the beginning of an amazing journey."
He gave them the assurance of His presence, now and forever.
This is what it means to say that Jesus is the fixed point of your journey.
